What is a DCal?

A CTRL V DCal (decals) is an adhesive backed vinyl developed for the applications that requires high conformability (stick to weird and curved shapes, without losing the adhesive or visual qualities of the image).

How do I apply the DCal?

Watch the following short instructional video here or follow the step by step guides (included in your post box).

To cut in around your fins, check out the ‘How To’ video here.

It is extremely important that the surface where your DCal (decals) will be stuck is super clean!
This means:

  • No wax or residue at all;
  • Any sand or dry salt must be remove, and
  • Any dings, shatters or cracks not repaired will either be visible or effect the DCal’s adherence.

Do I need to be experienced to apply my DCal?

No, not all. Be sure to follow the short instructional video here or follow the step by step guides (include in your post box). Take your time, work through the steps & she’ll be apples.

What if I get an air bubble?

Using the felt squeegee, that came with the DCal you purchased gently work the bubble towards the nearest edge of the board. DCal’s patented design will allow the air to escape with minimal effort.

What if I get a crease in the DCal?

Depends… if you are in the application process, it is straight forward.  Unapply the DCal (decals), towards the crease and work the crease out, using the felt squeegee, that came with the DCal you purchased.

If you have completed the application process, it’s a little tougher.  You can work the crease vigorously with your squeegee or with your thumb. Results will vary as to the severity of the crease & at what point of the application process you try and fix it – the sooner the better!

How do I get it off?

Cmon… you can’t ask that!
However, DCal (decals) removal is pretty straight forward.  Removal can be harder than finding a car park at Nationals, but you show it some lurvvv, that is follow the instructions in the short instructional video here, it is a smooth process.

Residue should be limited, we recommend having another crack with the metho & a clean cloth, should take care of any unwanted sticky stuff left on your stick.

How do I prepare my board?

It is the single most important step to ensuring that your DCal, stick & remains stuck!

The following short instructional video here or follow the step by step guides (include in your post box).

The area of your  board, that you are sticking your DCal to, must be clean of all substances, wax, dirt, sand, dried salt, other stickers etc… all of these will effect the quality of the DCal adhesive and the look of the DCal (decal).

To prepare the area , we strongly recommend you follow the prep steps :

Step 1 – Remove wax  or wax residue;

Step2 –  Wash down down area with fresh water & a steel wool soap pad – working the steel wool to remove any stubborn material;

Step3 –  Rinse board  thoroughly in fresh water;

Step 4 – Dry using clean towel;

Step 5 – Using a lint free clean cloth (chux works well), dampen cloth with Metholated Spirits and vigorously wipe the surface down;

Step 6 – Repeat Step 5, and

Step 7 – Inspect surface area of your board for any areas requiring a further clean & repeat step 3.

How long does a DCal last for?

The technology used to produce your DCal is designed to last 3 – 5 years.  Might outlast some of your boards…

Will the DCal damage my board?

Actually the opposite, it will improve the resistance to minor dings, depressions and shatters.  These may damage the DCal, particularly heavy scratches.  Treat the surface like you would you fiberglass or Epoxy & she’ll be apples.
